Welcome to the Rotary Club of Portmore. Chartered on April 1, 1999, under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Spanish Town, our club has spent nearly three decades standing as a pillar of community development, civic leadership, and humanitarian service in Jamaica.

A Legacy of Trailblazing Leadership

Our club began its journey with 20 dedicated charter members under our first President, Robert Gregory. We have always been a forward-thinking club, making national headlines during the 2000–2001 Rotary year by electing Rtn Shirley Gayle as President. This landmark decision marked her as the first female president of a Rotary club in Jamaica, cementing Portmore's legacy as a champion for gender equality in civic leadership.

Transforming Lives in Our Community

From healthcare and education to public safety, our project footprint is visible all across Portmore. Key milestones of our work include:

• Healthcare: Spearheaded the Gift of Life Project, which initially provided airfare for children needing overseas heart surgery and ultimately funded the creation of the Cardiac Unit at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

• Education & Literacy: Implemented ongoing literacy programs at Greater Portmore High School and distributed major shipments of books and educational supplies across local schools.

• Community & Safety: Partnered with local law enforcement to refurbish the Gregory Park Police Station, donated bicycles to the 100-Man Police Station, and organized regular health fairs, blood drives, and safety initiatives.

 

Fellowship: The "Fun Side" of Rotary

While our impact is serious, our culture is warm. We believe that fellowship is the glue that keeps us together. Through potlucks, bonfires, theater fundraisers, and our signature Jamming on the Deck nights, we turn community service into lifelong friendships.
