The Rotary Club of Portmore is proud to announce the rollout of an ambitious Literacy Program aimed at improving reading and writing skills among children and youth across the Portmore community. This impactful initiative, spearheaded by Immediate Past President Verdane Wright, is the follow up to the pilot project undertaken last Rotary year in partnership with a local high school. It will be carried into the current Rotary year as part of the club’s ongoing commitment to education and youth development.
The program will target primarily high schools where literacy levels remain a concern. It will include literacy support drives, reading mentorship sessions, library support services, and literacy workshops facilitated by trained volunteers and educators.
“Literacy is a fundamental tool for empowerment and progress,” said IPP Wright
The Rotary Club of Portmore is now seeking partners, sponsors, and donors, both corporate and individuals, who share the vision of building a more educated and empowered generation. Support can be in the form of books, digital resources, volunteer time, or financial donations.
“Through this initiative, we hope to open doors for many young people who might otherwise be left behind.”
